![]() ![]() If you want to do some kind of organized group content, you will want something that fits the way people do groups, which mainly seems to focus on damage focus vs providing quickness, alacrity, and/or healing. I mainly open world, though, so I can be less strict on optimal builds. Just picking one weapon can practically set your entire weapons and traits. The game is a lot less flexible than it looks at first. I mainly go with the weapon attacks I enjoy first, then see what that class options are using the ones I like. People use very different builds for WvW than raiding, for example. Like, do you want to raid? PvP? WvW? Just explore the huge open world stuff? That's important, because it says how strict you need to be on what your build does, and what kinds of things you need to do and deal with. Originally posted by Case:Game looks interesting but I cant seem to get past the classes because I cant seem to figure out what that class will be some levels down the road. You kind of need to ask yourself what you want to do. Soulbeast ranger can provide alacrity for his whole group while still playing dps. People make mistakes all the time and you being able to cover for some of it can mean a lot.Ī decent engi or thief can help their team skip some stuff in dungeons/fractals or sneak up on the enemy team in spvp. Later in fractals/raids/strikes/pvp a decent guard player can prevent his team from losing even with preventing 1 single strike. ![]() While you lvl blocking 1 random attack means nothing. Like guards get to block some attacks with aegis. Other then that there are still bunch of smaller bits that might not appear big until you go in the more organized content. Some can go bit more into it and provide some really nice stuff for the whole 5 man group/sub group. Most of the classes can provide some boons even with their normal rotations. Or you can play the mechanist and have a way easier time then other engineers. With engi you get kits that can give you another set of skills with different effect. With elementalist for instance you can swap around through your elements and heal yourself, deal cc, dmg proc conditions on the target and boons for yourself and others. Well there are people who like the complexity. Pressing one button may be easier, but using a combination of buttons for the same effect is more engaging gameplay. However, many people prefer playing a more complex class just because it's more interesting. Each class has access to a varying amount of them.Ĭomplex classes don't necessarily do better. "Healer" is replaced by a wide range of support buffs/debuffs. Heavy vs Light armor doesn't really mean much. It's not just face tanking like a normal MMO. It would take a significant amount of time to explain, especially since you are trying to understand it from a "Holy Trinity" point of view.ĭefense is done by a wide range of player action, abilities, and equipment. ![]() I just cant seem to figure out why youd play one other the other? Mesmer: also like Ranger but no healing slant.Ī lot of the time it depends on how you gear what class you're playing Necromancer: Another Jack of all trades, though favoring Condition over DPS with a healing niche. ![]() Thief: Seems to favor Condition, though I don't use this class much.Įlementalist: Runs a lot like Ranger, though Condition builds are harder to run than DPS builds so slight caveat. Ranger: Balances both DPS and Conditon, with a slight angle towards healing if you decide to become a Druid. Revenant: also Jack of all trades, each Legend favors a specific playstyle (ie Legendary Demon is Condition and Legendary Assassin is Power).Įngineer: kind of like Warrior in that it leans more towards DPS, but instead has a slight angle at healing. It just depends on how you gear it though it does favor healing a fair bit. Warrior: pretty much a DPS class, though it has some Condition potential. I just cant seem to figure out why youd play one other the other? Pretty much every class excels at everything, though through personal experience I can highlight where some classes fly high: It feels kinda upside down that casters are tanking and heavy armor classes have lower survival. It seems like everything says the Necromancer is the best at everything, but I dont really know what that means.Īlso, what the play style is going to be like later on. Game looks interesting but I cant seem to get past the classes because I cant seem to figure out what that class will be some levels down the road. It seems like most of the text out there just has real high level fluff for each class. Happen to have a link or something that shows which excel at which? There are classes that excel better at healing, support or DPS but there is no true tank, healer or DPS role ![]()
